William Rigby (The Builder Of Lowe House Church Memorial Chapel)

Margaret Mcintrye contacted me with the following information:

Last night I went through some old papers and found a little book my father gave me,Catholic Souvenir, its certainly old and on page23 under Memorial Chapel it says, "The work is in the hands of Mr William Rigby, who it will be remembered, himself laid every stone in St.Thomas of Canterbury's Church, Windleshaw". Also I have headed note paper from around 1930 it says  "WM.Rigby & Sons, Monumental Masons Etc.  Eccleston Hill Quarry, Prescot Road,  residence 46 Knowsley Road, St.Helens."
Later his son Henry worked across the road at H.Rigby monumental Masons, then my father and my uncle joined Henry. The yard is still there in Knowsley Road.

William Rigby was my greatgrand father, he died in 1943 aged 87.

The picture shows him (William Rigby) standing outside Lowe House Church and I have a booklet which says ( The Memorial Chapel ) the statue of St.George on the gable ( gift of Mr W. Rigby, the builder of the chapel ).
Also I saw pictures of the farm in Kiln Lane and when I was small we lived opposite this farm with the smithy at the end of the road.

Many thanks to Margaret - Little pieces of information help to bring the past alive.
