Town Hall
The town Hall in St Helens seems to have been plagued by a number of fires. A Town Hall was purchased from its builders in September 1870, thought was seriously damaged by fire the following May (1871), and again in 1873.
The new (current) town hall had its foudation stone laid in 1873 and opened in 1876.
On 9th June 1913 fire once again struck the Town Hall, thought to have been caused by a workman, the fire destroyed what was a steeple (now the clock tower).
